The Story Behind Our “We Got Rice at Home” Baby Onesie

The Story Behind Our “We Got Rice at Home” Baby Onesie

Some designs come from trends. Others come from memories.

This one came from both.

Long before I started The Many Roots Shop, I’d often hear the phrase, “We got rice at home.” It always made me smile. It was one of those funny sayings that stuck with me.

After my daughter, Adepa, was born, the phrase took on a new meaning.

Like many parents, sometimes I need a few minutes to get ready while keeping her entertained. One of our favorite things to watch together is Kunda & Friends. One of their songs includes the words, “There's rice at home waiting for me,” and every time I hear it, I smile all over again.

Adepa is only eight months old, so she’s not quite ready for a bowl of jollof rice yet. But one day, I hope she’ll grow up enjoying the foods and traditions that connect her to her Ghanaian heritage.

Jollof rice has always been a special meal in her family, and I hope to learn how to make it for her someday so we can create our own memories around the table.

This little onesie is a playful way to celebrate culture, family, and the traditions that bring us together. I hope it brings a smile to other families, too.

Thank you for supporting The Many Roots Shop and celebrating the many roots that make each child unique.
